Description
Overview of the medicine
Derma-Aid 5 mg Powder is a broad-spectrum antifungal preparation typically containing an active ingredient like Clotrimazole, used for various fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer of powder to the affected area 2-3 times daily. Continue for 2-4 weeks or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area before applying the powder. Sprinkle a thin layer over the affected skin and surrounding area. Do not cover with occlusive dressings unless advised by a doctor. Wash hands before and after application.
Mechanism of Action
The active ingredient (e.g., Clotrimazole, an imidazole derivative) inhibits the biosynthesis of ergosterol, a crucial component of fungal cell membranes. This leads to structural and functional impairment of the fungal cytoplasmic membrane, resulting in leakage of cellular contents and ultimately cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Symptom relief usually begins within a few days of consistent application.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged if systemically absorbed, otherwise locally removed.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical application due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after topical application. Primarily acts locally on the skin surface.
Metabolism
Limited systemic metabolism due to minimal absorption. Metabolized in the liver if absorbed.
