Overview of the medicine
Desotem 25 mg Syrup is a non-sedating antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial) and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adults and adolescents (12 years and older): 50 mg (10 mL) once daily.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is generally required for elderly patients, but caution is advised due to potential age-related decrease in renal function.
Renal_impairment
For patients with moderate to severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <50 mL/min), the recommended dose is 25 mg (5 mL) every other day.
How to Take
Administer orally, with or without food. Use the provided measuring device (e.g., syringe or cup) to ensure accurate dosing, especially for children. Shake well before use.
Mechanism of Action
Desotem selectively antagonizes peripheral H1-receptors, thereby inhibiting the effects of histamine and reducing allergic symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itching, and hives.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Symptom relief usually begins within 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Excretion
Approximately 70% of the dose is excreted via urine and 20% via feces, mainly as metabolites.
Half life
The elimination half-life is approximately 15-20 hours, allowing for once-daily dosing.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, with peak plasma concentrations typically achieved within 1 to 2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver through hydroxylation, followed by conjugation, to inactive metabolites.

Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
