Desotem 5 mg Tablet is an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergic conditions such as hay fever, allergic rhinitis, and chronic urticaria. It helps to reduce itching, sneezing, and runny nose.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
One 5 mg tablet once daily.
Elderly
No dose adjustment generally required, but caution is advised in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
For severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min), initial dose of 5 mg every other day is recommended.
How to Take
Desotem 5 mg tablet can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Desotem selectively antagonizes peripheral H1-receptors, preventing histamine from binding and exerting its effects, thereby reducing allergic symptoms. It does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier, leading to less sedation.
