Description
Overview of the medicine
Dinakion 10 mg Injection is an NSAID used for the rapid relief of acute pain and inflammation. It works by reducing the body's production of certain natural substances that cause inflammation.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10-20 mg administered via deep intramuscular injection once daily, or as advised by physician. Maximum daily dose should not exceed 40 mg.
Elderly
Lower initial doses should be considered; dosage adjustment based on renal function and tolerability.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose reduction may be necessary in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment. Avoid in severe renal failure.
How to Take
For deep intramuscular injection: Inject slowly into the upper outer quadrant of the buttock. For intravenous infusion: Dilute in 0.9% sodium chloride or 5% dextrose solution and infuse slowly over 30-60 minutes. Must be administered by a healthcare professional.
Mechanism of Action
Dinakion, containing Dinaflam Sodium, primarily acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins mediate inflammation, pain, and fever. By inhibiting their synthesis, Dinaflam Sodium reduces these symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Pain relief typically begins within 15-30 minutes of administration.
Excretion
Excreted primarily via the kidneys (approx. 60%) and feces (approx. 35%).
Half life
Plasma elimination half-life is approximately 1.5-2.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and completely absorbed following intramuscular administration, reaching peak plasma concentrations within 15-30 minutes.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily via hydroxylation and conjugation.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Dinaflam Sodium, aspirin, or other NSAIDs
- •Active gastrointestinal bleeding or peptic ulcer
- •Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- •Severe uncontrolled heart failure
- •Third trimester of pregnancy
Drug Interactions
Corticosteroids
Increased risk of gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding.
Lithium and Methotrexate
Increased plasma levels of lithium and methotrexate, leading to toxicity.
Diuretics and ACE Inhibitors
Reduced efficacy and increased risk of renal impairment.
Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
Increased risk of bleeding.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, and gastrointestinal bleeding. Management is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage or activated charcoal if ingestion was recent, and monitoring of vital signs and renal function.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Avoid during the third trimester of pregnancy due to potential for premature closure of the ductus arteriosus and prolongation of labor. Use during first and second trimesters only if clearly needed and benefits outweigh risks. Not recommended during breastfeeding as Dinaflam Sodium may pass into breast milk.
