Overview of the medicine
e-hexin 16 mg Tablet contains Ebastine, a non-sedating second-generation antihistamine used for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 10 mg or 20 mg once daily. For 16 mg: one 16 mg tablet once daily.
Elderly
No dose adjustment usually required, but caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment usually required for mild to moderate renal impairment. Caution in severe impairment.
How to Take
Oral. Can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Mechanism of Action
Ebastine is a potent, selective H1-receptor antagonist. It blocks the effects of histamine by competitively binding to peripheral H1 receptors, thereby alleviating symptoms like sneezing, itching, rhinorrhea, and urticaria.

Carebastine: approximately 15-19 hours
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration and undergoes extensive first-pass metabolism to its active metabolite, carebastine.

Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Rifampicin
May reduce plasma concentrations of ebastine, decreasing its efficacy.
Ketoconazole/Erythromycin
Increased plasma levels of ebastine and carebastine, potentially increasing QT prolongation risk.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include increased somnolence, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Management involves symptomatic and supportive care. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered. ECG monitoring is advisable due to potential for QT prolongation.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding as it is excreted in breast milk.
