Overview of the medicine
E-pod 80 mg Suspension is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in children.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Elderly
Dosage adjustment is generally not required in elderly patients unless there is severe renal impairment.
Children
Typical pediatric dosage is 5 mg/kg every 12 hours for 5 to 10 days, depending on the infection. Not to exceed 200 mg per dose.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min).
How to Take
Take orally with food to enhance absorption. Shake the bottle well before each use.
Mechanism of Action
It works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to bacterial cell death.

Rapid onset of action, therapeutic concentrations achieved quickly.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged by the kidneys (glomerular filtration and tubular secretion).
Half life
Plasma elimination half-life is approximately 2 to 3 hours.
Absorption
Cefpodoxime proxetil is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and hydrolyzed to active cefpodoxime. Bioavailability is approximately 50%.

Hydrolyzed to active cefpodoxime in the gastrointestinal tract. Minimal hepatic metabolism.

Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins, or penicillins.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid
Increases plasma levels of cefpodoxime.
Nephrotoxic drugs
Concomitant administration with nephrotoxic drugs may increase the risk of renal toxicity (rare).
Antacids/H2 Blockers/PPIs
May decrease the absorption of cefpodoxime.
Storage
Store the dry powder below 30°C in a dry place. After reconstitution, store in a refrigerator (2-8°C) and discard any unused portion after 14 days.
Overdose
In case of overdose, supportive and symptomatic treatment should be given. Hemodialysis may be helpful in removing cefpodoxime from the body.

Pregnancy Category B. Use with caution during lactation as small amounts may pass into breast milk.
