Overview of the medicine
Ebahist 5 mg Syrup contains Ebastine, a non-sedating antihistamine primarily used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial) and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 mg once daily. For severe cases, 20 mg once daily.
Elderly
No dose adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment needed for mild to moderate renal impairment. Use with caution in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Ebahist Syrup should be taken orally, with or without food. Use a measuring spoon or cup for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Ebastine acts as a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It blocks the effects of histamine by preventing its binding to H1-receptors, thereby reducing allergic symptoms like itching, sneezing, and rhinorrhea.

Onset of action within 1-3 hours.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine and feces as metabolites.
Half life
The elimination half-life of carebastine is approximately 15 to 19 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and extensively metabolized in the liver to the active metabolite, carebastine.
Metabolism
Undergoes extensive first-pass metabolism in the liver by CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 enzymes to its active metabolite carebastine.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Ebastine or any components of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Rifampicin
Decreased plasma levels of ebastine due to induction of hepatic enzymes.
Ketoconazole, Erythromycin, Ritonavir
Increased plasma levels of ebastine and carebastine, potentially increasing the risk of QT prolongation.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include CNS depression (e.g., drowsiness) and anticholinergic effects. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive; gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered. Monitor vital signs and cardiac rhythm.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Avoid use during lactation as ebastine or its metabolites may pass into breast milk.
