Description
Overview of the medicine
Ebatin 5 mg syrup is an antihistamine containing Ebastine, used for the symptomatic relief of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, and chronic idiopathic urticaria. It helps alleviate symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and skin rashes.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 mg (10 ml syrup) once daily. In severe cases, 20 mg (20 ml syrup) once daily.
Elderly
No special dosage adjustment required.
Renal_impairment
No special dosage adjustment required for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, with or without food. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day.
Mechanism of Action
Ebastine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It blocks the effects of histamine by competitively binding to H1 receptors, thereby reducing allergic symptoms. It has low sedative effects because it does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier.

Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Rifampicin
Decreased plasma levels of ebastine and carebastine.
Erythromycin
Increased plasma levels of ebastine and carebastine.
Grapefruit juice
May increase plasma levels of ebastine.
Ketoconazole/Itraconazole
Increased plasma levels of ebastine and carebastine.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include drowsiness, tachycardia, and hypotension. Management involves symptomatic and supportive treatment. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered if taken recently.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding as it is unknown if ebastine is excreted in human milk.
