Description
Overview of the medicine
Fexofenadine is a non-sedating antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis: 120 mg once daily or 60 mg twice daily. For Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria: 180 mg once daily.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment generally needed, but monitor renal function.
Renal_impairment
For severe renal impairment (CrCl < 10 mL/min), 60 mg once daily is recommended.
How to Take
Orally, with water, preferably before a meal. Do not take with fruit juice.
Mechanism of Action
Fexofenadine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It inhibits histamine release and reduces allergic symptoms without causing significant drowsiness.

Aluminum and Magnesium containing Antacids
Reduce fexofenadine absorption. Separate administration by 2 hours.

Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered. Hemodialysis is ineffective.

Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Excreted in breast milk; use with caution in breastfeeding mothers.
