Description
Overview of the medicine
Emiprox DS contains Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor used to treat acid-related disorders like GERD, erosive esophagitis, and stomach ulcers.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For GERD: 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. For Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: 40 mg twice daily, adjusted as per patient response.
Elderly
No dose adjustment generally required, but caution is advised in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment is needed for mild to moderate renal impairment. For severe impairment, caution is advised.
How to Take
Take orally, at least one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, crush, or break it.
Mechanism of Action
Irreversibly blocks the H+/K+-ATPase (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells, thereby reducing gastric acid secretion.

Mainly excreted via urine (approximately 80%) and feces (approximately 20%) as metabolites.

Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Esomeprazole, substituted benzimidazoles, or any component of the formulation.
- Concomitant use with nelfinavir.

Digoxin
Increased bioavailability of digoxin.
Diazepam
Increased plasma concentrations of diazepam.
Warfarin
Increased INR and bleeding risk due to altered metabolism.
Clopidogrel
Reduced antiplatelet effect of clopidogrel.

Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, tachycardia, nausea, headache, and abdominal pain. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. There is no specific antidote.

Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Esomeprazole is excreted in human breast milk; therefore, caution is advised when administered to a nursing woman.
