Empagliflozin is an oral antidiabetic drug used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 10 mg once daily, may be increased to 25 mg once daily.
Elderly
No dose adjustment generally required based on age alone, but renal function should be considered.
Renal_impairment
Not recommended for initiation if eGFR < 20 mL/min/1.73m², dosage adjustment may be needed for specific eGFR ranges.
How to Take
Take orally once daily in the morning, with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Empagliflozin inhibits the SGLT2 transporter in the kidneys, reducing glucose reabsorption and increasing glucose excretion in the urine, thereby lowering blood glucose levels.
