Description
Overview of the medicine
Emlozin 25 mg Tablet is an oral antidiabetic medicine used to lower blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It belongs to a class of drugs called SGLT2 inhibitors, which work by helping the kidneys remove glucose from the bloodstream, leading to reduced blood sugar levels. It may also be used in some cases for heart failure and chronic kidney disease.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 10 mg once daily, may increase to 25 mg once daily based on efficacy and tolerability.
Elderly
No dose adjustment required based on age; consider renal function.
Renal_impairment
Not recommended for glycemic control if eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73m². For heart failure/CKD, use with caution if eGFR < 20 mL/min/1.73m².
How to Take
Take orally once daily, with or without food, preferably in the morning.
Mechanism of Action
Emlozin selectively inhibits sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) in the renal proximal tubules, reducing glucose reabsorption and increasing urinary glucose excretion, thereby lowering blood glucose levels.

Within 30-60 minutes, peak effect within 1-2 hours.
Excretion
Mainly via urine (approx. 70-80%) and feces (approx. 20-30%).
Half life
Approximately 10-15 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, bioavailability ~80-90%.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via glucuronidation.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients
- •Patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus
- •Diabetic ketoacidosis
Drug Interactions
Diuretics
May increase risk of dehydration and hypotension.
Insulin or Insulin Secretagogues
Increased risk of hypoglycemia, dose adjustment may be needed.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, supportive treatment should be initiated as dictated by the patient’s clinical status. Removal of emlozin by hemodialysis has not been studied.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Use during lactation is not recommended as it may harm the infant.
