Overview of the medicine
Emonium 50 mg Tablet is an antispasmodic medicine used to relieve cramps or spasms of the stomach, intestines, and bladder. It works by relaxing the muscles in these organs, thereby reducing pain and discomfort.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
One tablet (50 mg) two to three times daily, before meals.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, but caution should be exercised; lower doses may be considered if sensitive.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment is usually required, but use with caution in severe impairment.
How to Take
Take the tablet whole with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food, but generally recommended before meals for better efficacy in GI spasms.
Mechanism of Action
Emonium acts as an anticholinergic agent, primarily by blocking muscarinic acetylcholine receptors on smooth muscle cells in the gastrointestinal tract and urinary bladder. This leads to relaxation of smooth muscles, reducing spasms and associated pain.

Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Antipsychotics
Increased risk of adverse effects.
Opioid analgesics
May enhance constipation and urinary retention.
Other anticholinergics
Increased risk of anticholinergic side effects (e.g., dry mouth, constipation).
Antidepressants (tricyclic)
Enhanced anticholinergic effects.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include severe dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, fast heartbeat, confusion, and urinary retention. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage and administration of physostigmine if necessary.
