Overview of the medicine
Exicof Syrup is a combination medication used for the relief of symptoms associated with common cold, flu, and allergies, such as cough, nasal congestion, runny nose, and sneezing.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls) 3-4 times daily.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, with caution and dose adjustment if necessary due to reduced renal or hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose adjustment may be necessary in severe impairment.
How to Take
Orally, with or without food. Use a measuring spoon or cup for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Dextromethorphan suppresses cough by acting on the cough center in the medulla. Phenylephrine is a decongestant that causes vasoconstriction, reducing nasal swelling. Triprolidine is an antihistamine that blocks H1 receptors, alleviating runny nose and sneezing.

Contraindications

Drug Interactions
MAOIs
Risk of hypertensive crisis and serotonin syndrome.
Beta-blockers
Enhanced pressor effects of phenylephrine.
Tricyclic Antidepressants
May enhance the pressor effects of sympathomimetics.
CNS Depressants (e.g., alcohol, sedatives, hypnotics)
Increased sedative effects and CNS depression.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, hypertension, and CNS depression. Severe cases may involve respiratory depression or seizures. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage or activated charcoal, and monitoring of vital signs.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Not recommended during breastfeeding as components may pass into breast milk and cause adverse effects in infants.
