Overview of the medicine
Expillin 4 mg Tablet is an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual recommended dose is 4 mg once daily. May be taken with or without food.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is typically required; however, caution is advised in elderly patients with impaired renal function. Consult a doctor.
Renal_impairment
For moderate to severe renal impairment (CrCl < 50 mL/min), the dose should be reduced to 2 mg once daily or 4 mg every other day. Severe impairment (CrCl < 10 mL/min) requires individualized dosing.
How to Take
Expillin 4 mg Tablet should be swallowed whole with water, with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Expilline Dihydrochloride acts as a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It prevents histamine from binding to H1 receptors, thereby inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators and reducing allergy symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, and itching.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Expilline Dihydrochloride or any excipients of the tablet
- •Severe renal impairment (end-stage renal disease) without dose adjustment
Drug Interactions
Theophylline
May decrease the clearance of Expilline Dihydrochloride; however, the clinical significance is generally minimal.
CNS Depressants and Alcohol
Concurrent use may increase CNS depressant effects such as drowsiness and impaired psychomotor performance. Avoid alcohol.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, agitation, and tachycardia. Treatment should be symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage and activated charcoal if appropriate. There is no specific antidote.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have not shown harm to the fetus, but human data are limited. Use only if clearly needed after consulting a doctor. Expilline is excreted in breast milk; advise caution during lactation and consult a healthcare professional.
