Description
Overview of the medicine
Eytex-01-03 Eye Ointment is a combination medication containing Tobramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, and Dexamethasone, a potent corticosteroid. It is used to treat inflammatory ocular conditions where a bacterial infection or risk of bacterial infection exists.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a small amount (approximately 1 cm strip) into the conjunctival sac three to four times daily.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required for renal impairment due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Wash hands thoroughly before application. Pull down the lower eyelid, apply a small amount of ointment into the conjunctival sac, and close the eye for a few seconds. Do not touch the tip of the tube to the eye or any other surface.
Mechanism of Action
Tobramycin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by suppressing the migration of leukocytes and reversing increased capillary permeability.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within hours for symptomatic relief.
Excretion
Primarily local action, minimal systemic excretion.
Half life
Not clinically significant for ophthalmic use due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after ocular administration. Local absorption into ocular tissues.
Metabolism
Not significantly metabolized systemically when administered topically to the eye.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Tobramycin, Dexamethasone, or any component of the formulation.
- •Epithelial herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis), vaccinia, varicella, and many other viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva.
- •Mycobacterial infection of the eye.
- •Fungal diseases of ocular structures.
- •Untreated purulent infection of the eye.
Drug Interactions
Aminoglycosides (systemic)
Concurrent topical ophthalmic aminoglycosides with systemic aminoglycoside therapy may result in cumulative toxicity. Close monitoring is advised.
NSAIDs (topical ophthalmic)
May increase the risk of corneal healing issues.
Storage
Store below 25°C (77°F), protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Due to the limited volume of the conjunctival sac and minimal systemic absorption, overdose is unlikely. If excessive application occurs, flush the eye with warm water.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use in pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother. Consult a doctor.
