Adults

The usual adult dose is 150 mg three times daily. The dosage and duration of treatment should be determined by the physician based on the type and severity of infection.

Elderly

No specific dose adjustment is generally required for elderly patients unless there is severe renal impairment.

Renal_impairment

For patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min), the dose should be reduced as advised by a physician.

Onset

Rapid onset of action, typically within 1 hour.

Excretion

Primarily excreted unchanged in the urine via glomerular filtration and tubular secretion.

Half life

Plasma half-life is approximately 1 hour.

Absorption

Rapidly absorbed after oral administration; bioavailability is approximately 70%. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-1.5 hours.

Metabolism

Partially metabolized in the kidneys to an inactive metabolite.

Probenecid

Concomitant use with Probenecid can increase Faropenem plasma concentrations and prolong its half-life, potentially increasing the risk of adverse effects.

Valproic Acid

Carbapenems, including Faropenem, may reduce serum concentrations of valproic acid, leading to a loss of seizure control. Co-administration should be avoided or closely monitored.
