Overview of the medicine
Favozyth 500 mg Tablet is a broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
500 mg once daily for 3 days, or 500 mg as a single dose on day 1, followed by 250 mg once daily on days 2-5.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment required.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required for mild to moderate renal impairment; caution advised in severe impairment.
How to Take
Favozyth tablets can be taken with or without food. It is important to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor.
Mechanism of Action
Favozyth inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, thereby interfering with the translocation of peptides.

Excretion
Mainly excreted unchanged in bile; a smaller portion is excreted in urine.

Approximately 48-68 hours, allowing for once-daily dosing.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, bioavailability is approximately 37%.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic, undergoing N-demethylation.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to favozyth, erythromycin, or any macrolide antibiotic.
- History of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with prior favozyth use.
Drug Interactions
Digoxin
Increased plasma levels of digoxin; monitor digoxin levels.
Antacids
Concurrent administration with antacids may reduce favozyth peak plasma concentrations. Administer favozyth at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after antacids.
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effect when favozyth is co-administered with warfarin; monitor prothrombin time.
Cyclosporine
Increased plasma levels of cyclosporine; monitor cyclosporine levels.
QT-prolonging drugs
Avoid co-administration with other drugs known to prolong the QT interval (e.g., Class IA and III antiarrhythmics, certain antipsychotics).

Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
