Description
Overview of the medicine
Fixgut 5 mg Suspension is an oral medication used to manage various gastrointestinal motility disorders. It helps improve the movement of food through the digestive tract, alleviating symptoms like nausea, vomiting, bloating, and discomfort associated with impaired gut motility. It is particularly formulated for easy administration.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 5-10 mg (1-2 teaspoons) three times daily, 15-30 minutes before meals. Max 30 mg/day.
Elderly
Lower initial dose (e.g., 5 mg twice daily) may be considered, with careful titration based on response and tolerability.
Renal_impairment
Dose reduction recommended for severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min); e.g., 5 mg once or twice daily.
How to Take
Shake the bottle well before use. Measure the prescribed dose using a measuring spoon or oral syringe. Take 15-30 minutes before meals.
Mechanism of Action
Fixgut works by enhancing the release of acetylcholine from enteric neurons, which increases gastrointestinal smooth muscle contractility and tone. It acts primarily on dopamine D2 receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone and peripherally in the gut, leading to improved gastric emptying and small bowel transit.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 15-30 minutes.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via urine (60%) and feces (40%) as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 4-6 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the GI tract after oral administration, with peak plasma concentrations reached within 30-60 minutes.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily via CYP3A4.

May decrease the absorption of Fixgut if taken concomitantly. Administer Fixgut 1-2 hours before or after these agents.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Do not freeze.
