Description
Overview of the medicine
FizyCal-M is a mineral and vitamin supplement containing Calcium, Vitamin D3, and Magnesium. It is primarily used to maintain bone health, prevent osteoporosis, and support overall bodily functions where these nutrients are crucial.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1-2 tablets daily, preferably with meals, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
Same as adults, but monitor for hypercalcemia if other calcium sources are present.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose adjustment may be necessary under medical supervision due to risk of hypercalcemia and hypermagnesemia.
How to Take
Oral administration. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water. Best taken with meals to enhance absorption.
Mechanism of Action
Calcium is essential for bone mineralization, muscle contraction, and nerve function. Vitamin D3 helps in the absorption of calcium from the gut and its deposition in bones. Magnesium contributes to bone density, muscle relaxation, and numerous enzymatic reactions.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Long-term effect for bone health, acute effects on blood levels are faster.
Excretion
Calcium and Magnesium are excreted via urine and feces. Vitamin D metabolites are primarily excreted in bile and feces.
Half life
Calcium is complex, Vitamin D3 half-life is ~15 days, Magnesium is excreted rapidly if not stored.
Absorption
Calcium absorption is primarily in the small intestine, influenced by Vitamin D. Vitamin D3 is absorbed from the gut. Magnesium is absorbed mainly in the small intestine.
Metabolism
Calcium and Magnesium are primarily regulated by homeostatic mechanisms. Vitamin D3 is metabolized in the liver (to 25-hydroxyvitamin D) and kidneys (to 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, the active form).
