Description
Overview of the medicine
Flindof 200 mg Tablet contains Flindofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for symptomatic relief of pain, inflammation, and fever. It works by reducing the production of prostaglandins.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
200 mg to 400 mg, 3 to 4 times daily, as needed. Maximum daily dose should not exceed 1200 mg without medical supervision.
Elderly
Initiate with lower doses and monitor for adverse effects. Dose adjustment may be necessary based on renal function.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Dose reduction or avoidance may be necessary in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take the tablet orally with a full glass of water, preferably with food or milk, to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Flindofen inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever. By inhibiting their synthesis, Flindofen produces its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Analgesic effects typically begin within 30 minutes.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in the urine (about 90%) as metabolites and conjugates, with a small amount excreted in feces.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are usually reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes (e.g., CYP2C9) into inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Known hypersensitivity to Flindofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs.
- •Active gastrointestinal bleeding or peptic ulcer disease.
- •Severe heart failure, renal failure, or hepatic failure.
- •Third trimester of pregnancy.
- •History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
Drug Interactions
Lithium
Increased plasma levels of lithium, leading to toxicity.
Methotrexate
Increased toxicity of methotrexate.
Corticosteroids
Increased risk of gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding.
Diuretics and ACE Inhibitors
Reduced efficacy of these drugs and increased risk of renal impairment.
Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
Increased risk of bleeding.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, drowsiness, dizziness, tinnitus, and headache. Severe overdose can lead to gastrointestinal bleeding, acute renal failure, coma, and seizures. Management is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage or activated charcoal if ingested recently.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended during the third trimester of pregnancy due to potential risks to the fetus. Use with caution in the first and second trimesters only if clearly needed and under strict medical supervision. Small amounts may pass into breast milk; use with caution in lactating mothers.
