Description
Overview of the medicine
Florium 5 mg Tablet contains Anxiolozam, a benzodiazepine derivative, primarily used for the short-term treatment of anxiety disorders, insomnia, and certain seizure disorders. It acts on the central nervous system to produce a calming effect.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For anxiety: 1-2 mg, 2-3 times daily. For insomnia: 2-4 mg at bedtime.
Elderly
Lower initial doses recommended; typically 0.5-1 mg, 1-2 times daily, adjusted as needed.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required, but caution is advised in severe cases.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablet; swallow whole with water.
Mechanism of Action
Anxiolozam enhances the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, by binding to specific benzodiazepine receptors on the GABAA receptor complex. This leads to increased chloride ion influx into neurons, resulting in hyperpolarization and reduced neuronal excitability.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes after oral administration.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in the urine as glucuronide conjugates.
Half life
Approximately 10-20 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily via glucuronidation.
