Flubiotic 500 mg Capsule contains Fluoxacillin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against a wide range of bacterial infections. It is prescribed for various respiratory, urinary, skin, and soft tissue infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
500 mg once daily for 7-14 days, depending on the infection severity and type.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment needed based solely on age, but renal function should be assessed.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment required for creatinine clearance < 50 mL/min; typically 250 mg once daily.
How to Take
Flubiotic capsules should be swallowed whole with water, with or without food. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Fluoxacillin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to cell death.

Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in urine via renal excretion; a small portion is eliminated in feces.
Half life
Approximately 7-10 hours
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; bioavailability approximately 90%. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Fluoxacillin or other fluoroquinolones
- •History of tendon disorders related to quinolone administration
- •Epilepsy or other seizure disorders
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, requiring INR monitoring.
Theophylline
May increase theophylline levels and risk of toxicity.
Corticosteroids
Increased risk of tendon rupture when co-administered.
Antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, Sucralfate, Iron supplements, Zinc supplements
These can reduce the absorption of Fluoxacillin. Administer Fluoxacillin at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after these agents.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, gastric lavage may be performed. Supportive care and symptomatic treatment are recommended. Hemodialysis is not effective in removing Fluoxacillin.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk.
