Description
Overview of the medicine
Fondy 180 mg Tablet contains Fexofenadine Hydrochloride, a non-drowsy antihistamine used to relieve symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
180 mg once daily
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment recommended unless renal impairment is present.
Renal_impairment
For moderate to severe renal impairment (CrCl 10-50 mL/min), initial dose of 60 mg once daily is recommended. For end-stage renal disease (CrCl <10 mL/min) or patients on dialysis, initial dose of 60 mg once daily is recommended.
How to Take
Fondy 180 mg Tablet should be taken orally with water. It can be taken with or without food. Avoid taking it with fruit juice (e.g., grapefruit, orange, apple) as this may reduce its absorption.
Mechanism of Action
Fexofenadine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It competitively binds to H1 receptors, preventing histamine from binding and exerting its effects, thereby inhibiting allergic reactions. It does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier, contributing to its non-sedating profile.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1 hour
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in the feces (80%) and urine (11%)
Half life
Approximately 14 hours
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached in 2-3 hours. Bioavailability is approximately 33%.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized (less than 5%) in the liver via CYP3A4 pathway. The majority is excreted unchanged.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine or any components of the tablet
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin or Ketoconazole
Concomitant use may increase plasma levels of fexofenadine, but this is generally not associated with increased side effects.
Antacids containing aluminum and magnesium
May decrease the absorption of fexofenadine. Separate administration by at least 2 hours.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, drowsiness, and dry mouth. Management is symptomatic and supportive; consider standard measures to remove unabsorbed drug (e.g., gastric lavage, activated charcoal) if indicated.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Small amounts of fexofenadine may be excreted in human milk; use with caution in nursing mothers.
