Glims 4 mg Tablet contains Glimepiride, an oral antidiabetic drug used to lower blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise alone are not enough.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initially 1-2 mg once daily, administered with breakfast or the first main meal. Dose can be increased by 1-2 mg increments at 1-2 week intervals up to a maximum of 8 mg daily.
Elderly
Initial dose of 1 mg once daily; careful titration due to increased risk of hypoglycemia.
Renal_impairment
Starting dose 1 mg once daily. Close monitoring is essential.
How to Take
Oral administration. Take once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Glimepiride primarily acts by stimulating insulin release from the pancreatic beta cells, thereby lowering blood glucose. It also increases sensitivity of peripheral tissues to insulin.
