Description
Overview of the medicine
Glysup 2 mg Suppository contains glycerin and is used as a mild laxative to relieve occasional constipation. It works by drawing water into the bowel and stimulating bowel movements.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
One 2 mg suppository rectally, as needed. Do not exceed once daily unless directed by a doctor.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage. Use with caution if elderly have pre-existing rectal conditions.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
Insert the suppository into the rectum. It is usually best to insert the suppository about 15-60 minutes before the desired bowel movement. Moisten with water if necessary. Do not take orally.
Mechanism of Action
Glycerin acts as an osmotic laxative by drawing water into the colon and rectum, thereby softening the stool and promoting bowel evacuation. It also has a local irritant effect on the bowel wall, which further stimulates peristalsis.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Typically within 15-60 minutes.
Excretion
Primarily excreted via feces (unabsorbed portion) and renally (absorbed portion, if any).
Half life
Not clinically relevant due to minimal systemic absorption and local action.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption when administered rectally. Primarily acts locally.
Metabolism
If absorbed, metabolized in the liver to carbon dioxide and water or glycogen.
