Description
Overview of the medicine
Hairgrow 2% Scalp Solution is a topical medication used to stimulate hair growth and slow hair loss in individuals with androgenetic alopecia (male-pattern baldness and female-pattern hair loss).
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply 1 ml (containing 20 mg minoxidil) to the affected scalp areas twice daily, preferably morning and evening. Do not exceed 2 ml per day.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage. Efficacy and safety not specifically studied, but generally considered safe.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed for topical application as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
Ensure scalp and hair are completely dry. Apply 1 ml of solution with the provided dropper to the center of the affected area of the scalp. Gently massage the solution evenly over the area. Wash hands thoroughly after application. Do not shampoo hair for at least 4 hours after application.
Mechanism of Action
Minoxidil is a direct peripheral vasodilator. When applied topically, it is thought to stimulate hair growth by widening blood vessels around hair follicles, increasing blood flow, and delivering more oxygen and nutrients. It may also prolong the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle and cause miniaturized follicles to enlarge.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Hair growth stimulation usually observed after 2-4 months of twice-daily application.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine.
Half life
Systemically absorbed minoxidil has an average half-life of 4.2 hours.
Absorption
Approximately 1.4% of topically applied minoxidil is absorbed systemically.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized by glucuronidation in the liver.
