Overview of the medicine
Hexirest 2 mg tablet is an anticholinergic medication used to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease and drug-induced extrapyramidal disorders.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initially 1 mg, 3 times daily, gradually increased to 5-15 mg daily in divided doses.
Elderly
Lower initial doses and slower titration, usually 1 mg, 1-2 times daily.
Renal_impairment
Adjust dose with caution; lower doses may be required.
How to Take
Administer orally before or after meals. If gastric irritation occurs, take after meals.
Mechanism of Action
Blocks muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the central nervous system, restoring the balance between cholinergic and dopaminergic activity.

Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Antihistamines
Increased risk of anticholinergic effects.
Phenothiazines
May increase anticholinergic side effects and risk of tardive dyskinesia.
Tricyclic antidepressants
Potentiated anticholinergic effects.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture.
Overdose
Symptoms include CNS excitation, delirium, hallucinations, tachycardia, urinary retention, dilated pupils. Management is supportive, including gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and physostigmine if severe anticholinergic effects.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk; advise against breastfeeding.
