Dosage
Adults
Typically 400 mg once daily for 7-14 days, depending on the infection type and severity.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required based on age alone, but consider renal function.

Dosage reduction is necessary for patients with creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min.
How to Take
Administer orally with or without food. Do not take with dairy products or calcium-fortified juices.
Mechanism of Action
It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes, which are essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, thereby leading to bacterial cell death.
