Description
Overview of the medicine
Ibruxen (Ibuprofen) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and lower fever. It is commonly used for headaches, menstrual cramps, arthritis, and minor injuries.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Oral: 200-400 mg every 4-6 hours as needed. Max 1200 mg/day for OTC, up to 2400-3200 mg/day for Rx under medical supervision.
Elderly
Start with lower doses and monitor for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose adjustment may be necessary. Avoid in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, preferably with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Do not exceed recommended dose.
Mechanism of Action
Ibuprofen works by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are chemicals in the body responsible for pain, fever, and inflammation. It achieves this by blocking the cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Pain relief in 30-60 minutes, anti-inflammatory effects may take longer.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in the urine as metabolites and their conjugates.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the GI tract. Peak plasma concentrations are reached 1-2 hours after oral administration.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver by oxidation.

Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
