Description
Overview of the medicine
Imacent 100 mg Tablet is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the relief of pain, inflammation, and fever. It is effective in treating various conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, musculoskeletal pain, and dysmenorrhea.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
100 mg once or twice daily, or as directed by a physician. Maximum dose not to exceed 200 mg per day.
Elderly
Lower doses may be required due to increased sensitivity and potential for adverse effects. Consult a physician.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment may be necessary. Initiate with a lower dose and monitor renal function. Avoid in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Mechanism of Action
Imacene works by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, particularly COX-2, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Pain relief usually starts within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Excreted mainly via the kidneys (urine), with a smaller portion excreted in feces.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations achieved within 1-2 hours after oral administration.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes.

- •Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- •Severe heart failure
- •Third trimester of pregnancy

Drug Interactions
Lithium
Increased plasma lithium levels, leading to toxicity.
Methotrexate
Increased methotrexate toxicity.
Corticosteroids
Increased risk of gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding.
Other NSAIDs or Aspirin
Increased risk of adverse effects, avoid concomitant use.
Diuretics and ACE inhibitors
Reduced efficacy of these medications and increased risk of renal impairment.
Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
Increased risk of bleeding.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, lethargy, drowsiness, and gastrointestinal bleeding. Management involves symptomatic and supportive care. Gastric lavage or activated charcoal may be considered if ingested recently. Monitor renal and liver function.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C (D in third trimester). Avoid use in the third trimester due to potential premature closure of the fetal ductus arteriosus. Use with caution in first and second trimesters only if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during lactation as Imacene may pass into breast milk.
