Imacent 400 mg Tablet is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
400 mg orally once daily for 7-14 days, depending on the infection severity and type.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is typically required unless severe renal impairment is present.
Renal_impairment
For CrCl < 30 mL/min, reduce dose to 200 mg once daily or extend dosing interval.
How to Take
Imacent 400 mg Tablet can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Imacent, the active ingredient, inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.

Onset
Clinical effects observed within a few hours to a day, depending on the infection.
Excretion
Primarily via renal excretion (both glomerular filtration and tubular secretion) and to a lesser extent via feces.
Half life
Approximately 5-8 hours.
Absorption
Rapid and well-absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Limited hepatic metabolism, primarily excreted as unchanged drug.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Imacent or other fluoroquinolones.
- History of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone administration.
- Patients with epilepsy or other seizure disorders.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May potentiate the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, increasing the risk of bleeding. Close monitoring of INR is recommended.
NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs)
Concomitant use may increase the risk of CNS stimulation and convulsive seizures.
Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, iron supplements, sucralfate, or zinc
These agents can significantly reduce the absorption of Imacent. Administer Imacent at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after these products.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, supportive measures should be initiated. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered if ingestion is recent. Monitor ECG for QT prolongation. Hemodialysis is not effective.
