Indaren-G (Propranolol Hydrochloride) is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker used to treat various conditions including hypertension, angina pectoris, arrhythmias, essential tremor, and migraine prophylaxis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Hypertension: Initially 40 mg twice daily, may be increased to 80-320 mg/day in divided doses.
Elderly
Lower initial doses may be considered, and titration should be cautious.

How to Take
Take orally, preferably with or after food, at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
Mechanism of Action
Propranolol non-selectively blocks beta1 and beta2 adrenergic receptors, leading to decreased heart rate, reduced myocardial contractility, and lower blood pressure. It also inhibits renin release and has anti-arrhythmic effects.

1-2 hours (oral)
Excretion
Primarily excreted in the urine as metabolites, with only a small amount of unchanged drug.
Half life
3-6 hours
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, but undergoes significant first-pass metabolism. Bioavailability is about 25-50%.

Extensively metabolized in the liver by aromatic hydroxylation, N-dealkylation, and glucuronidation.
