Description
Overview of the medicine
Juvain 800 mg Tablet is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and lower fever. It is typically prescribed for conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and various forms of musculoskeletal pain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For pain and inflammation: 800 mg orally three times daily, preferably after meals. Maximum daily dose should not exceed 2400 mg.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, but caution should be exercised due to increased risk of adverse effects. Start with the lowest effective dose.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. Contraindicated in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take Juvain 800 mg Tablet orally with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Juvain works by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are chemicals in the body that contribute to pain, inflammation, and fever. It primarily inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, particularly COX-1 and COX-2.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Analgesic effect begins within 30-60 minutes; anti-inflammatory effects may take longer, often several days to weeks.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in the urine as inactive metabolites and their conjugates. A small portion is excreted via bile.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours, with variations depending on individual metabolism and renal function.
Absorption
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, especially when taken on an empty stomach. Peak plasma concentrations are achieved within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by oxidation and conjugation into inactive metabolites. These metabolites are then extensively excreted.

- •Hypersensitivity to Juvain, ibuprofen, or other NSAIDs
- •Active gastrointestinal bleeding or peptic ulcer disease
- •Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- •Congestive heart failure (NYHA Class II-IV)
- •Third trimester of pregnancy

Methotrexate
Increased methotrexate toxicity.
ACE inhibitors and diuretics
Reduced antihypertensive effect and increased risk of renal impairment.
Warfarin and other anticoagulants
Increased risk of bleeding.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry and cool place, away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, lethargy, dizziness, and central nervous system depression. In severe cases, gastrointestinal bleeding, acute renal failure, and coma may occur. Management is primarily symptomatic and supportive; gastric lavage or activated charcoal may be considered if ingestion is recent.
