Description
Overview of the medicine
Kilpro 400 mg Tablet contains Ketoprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain, swelling, and stiffness from arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. It is also used to treat mild to moderate pain, menstrual cramps, and fever.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Oral: 100-200 mg daily in 1 or 2 doses for long-term treatment. For acute conditions or severe pain, up to 400 mg daily in divided doses. The 400 mg tablet is usually for extended-release or specific conditions, often taken once daily or as directed.
Elderly
Lower doses may be required due to increased risk of side effects. Initial dose of 50-100 mg daily, adjusted as needed under medical supervision.
Renal_impairment
Reduced dosage is necessary. Initial dose of 50 mg daily, adjusted based on creatinine clearance. Avoid in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break extended-release tablets.
Mechanism of Action
Ketoprofen works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals in the body that cause pain, fever, and inflammation. It achieves this by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Excretion
Mainly via urine (up to 80% as metabolites), some fecal excretion.
Half life
Approximately 1.5-2.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, peak plasma concentrations occur within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic, undergoing glucuronidation.
