Description
Overview of the medicine
Lebac 125 mg Pediatric Drop contains Cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is used to treat various bacterial infections in children, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and otitis media.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Elderly
Dosage adjustment is generally not necessary unless renal function is significantly impaired.
Pediatric
For children 6 months to 12 years: 8 mg/kg/day administered as a single dose or in two divided doses every 12 hours. The usual dose for a child weighing 6.25 kg is 2.5 mL once daily or 1.25 mL every 12 hours.
Renal_impairment
In severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min), the total daily dose should be reduced by 50%.
How to Take
Lebac Pediatric Drop should be administered orally, with or without food. Shake the bottle well before each use. Use the provided dropper or measuring cup for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the lysis and death of bacteria.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Peak plasma concentrations are achieved within 2-6 hours after administration.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in the urine (about 50%) and bile.
Half life
Plasma half-life is typically 3-4 hours.
Absorption
Approximately 40-50% orally absorbed. Food can delay absorption but does not significantly affect the extent.
Metabolism
Minimal metabolism; a small portion undergoes hepatic metabolism.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Cefixime or any other cephalosporin antibiotics.
- History of serious hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin antibiotics.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May increase prothrombin time, monitor INR.
Carbamazepine
May increase carbamazepine levels; monitor drug levels.
Oral Anticoagulants
May enhance anticoagulant effects; monitor coagulation parameters.
Storage
Store the dry powder at room temperature (below 30°C), protected from light and moisture. After reconstitution, store the suspension in a refrigerator (2-8°C) and do not freeze.
Overdose
In case of overdose, gastric lavage may be indicated. There is no specific antidote. Treatment should be supportive and symptomatic. Hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis does not remove Cefixime from the body in significant amounts.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have not shown harm to the fetus, but there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Cefixime is excreted in low concentrations in human milk; caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother.
