Description
Overview of the medicine
Lemulin 600 mg tablet is a novel broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, effectively stopping the growth and spread of susceptible bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
600 mg every 12 hours for 7-14 days, depending on the severity and type of infection.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required unless there is severe renal or hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
For creatinine clearance <30 mL/min, dosage should be reduced to 300 mg every 12 hours.
How to Take
Lemulin 600 mg tablet should be taken orally with a glass of water, with or without food. It is important to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by the doctor, even if symptoms improve.
Mechanism of Action
Lemulin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. This bacteriostatic action prevents bacterial growth and multiplication.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1-2 hours of administration.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine (approximately 60%) and feces (approximately 30%) as unchanged drug and metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 6-8 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract following oral administration, with peak plasma concentrations reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYP3A4).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Lemulin or any component of the formulation.
- •History of antibiotic-associated colitis, especially Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD).
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May enhance the anticoagulant effect, requiring close monitoring of INR.
Oral contraceptives
May reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives; advise use of alternative birth control methods.
Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium
May decrease the absorption of Lemulin; administer at least 2 hours apart.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Symptomatic and supportive treatment is recommended. Hemodialysis is not effective in removing Lemulin from the blood.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Exercise caution when administering to a nursing woman, as Lemulin is excreted in breast milk.
