Description
Overview of the medicine
Limpet 2 mg Tablet contains Limpet, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used for the treatment of major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and panic disorder. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain, a natural substance that helps maintain mental balance.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose: 2 mg once daily. May be increased to 4 mg after one week, if needed. Maximum recommended dose is 8 mg daily.
Elderly
Initial dose: 1 mg once daily. Max dose typically 4 mg daily, with caution.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment needed for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Limpet selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) into the presynaptic neuron, thereby increasing the concentration of 5-HT in the synaptic cleft. This leads to enhanced serotonergic neurotransmission, which is believed to be responsible for its antidepressant and anxiolytic effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Therapeutic effects may begin within 1-2 weeks, but full effect may take 4-6 weeks.
Excretion
Excreted predominantly in the urine (60%) and feces (40%) as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 24-30 hours, allowing for once-daily dosing.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, with peak plasma concentrations achieved within 4-6 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 enzymes.
