Description
Overview of the medicine
Lumona 10 mg Tablet contains Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride, a non-drowsy antihistamine used to relieve symptoms associated with allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria. It helps alleviate sneezing, runny nose, itchy watery eyes, and itching.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual recommended dose for adults and children 12 years and older is 10 mg (one tablet) once daily in the evening.
Elderly
No dose adjustment is generally required for elderly patients with normal renal function. Dose should be adjusted in elderly patients with impaired renal function.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment is necessary for patients with impaired renal function. Consult a physician for specific dosage based on creatinine clearance.
How to Take
Take Lumona 10 mg Tablet orally with or without food, as directed by your physician. It is typically taken once daily in the evening.
Mechanism of Action
Levocetirizine selectively inhibits peripheral H1-receptors. By blocking the action of histamine, a chemical mediator of allergic reactions, it effectively reduces the symptoms of allergies without causing significant central nervous system depression.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of action is typically within 1 hour.
Excretion
Approximately 85.4% of the dose is excreted in urine and 12.9% in feces, mainly as unchanged drug.
Half life
The plasma elimination half-life is approximately 7-10 hours in healthy adults.
Absorption
Rapidly and extensively absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached in approximately 0.9 hours.
Metabolism
Less than 14% of the dose is metabolized in the liver by oxidation. Primarily excreted unchanged.
