Overview of the medicine
Marcus 5 mg tablet contains Cinnarizine, an antihistamine and calcium channel blocker used to treat symptoms of vertigo, dizziness, and motion sickness. It also helps in conditions like Meniere's disease and cerebral vascular disorders.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For vertigo/dizziness: 25 mg (five 5 mg tablets) three times daily. For motion sickness: 25 mg (five 5 mg tablets) 2 hours before travel, then 12.5 mg (two and a half 5 mg tablets) every 8 hours during travel. For cerebral vascular disorders: 75 mg (fifteen 5 mg tablets) daily in divided doses.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, but caution with lower initial dose due to increased susceptibility to side effects.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment required for mild to moderate renal impairment; use with caution in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Marcus 5 mg tablet is for oral use. It should be taken with water, preferably after meals to minimize gastrointestinal irritation.
Mechanism of Action
Cinnarizine acts by blocking H1 histamine receptors, reducing vestibular excitability. It also inhibits calcium influx into vascular smooth muscle cells, leading to vasodilation and improved microcirculation, particularly in the cerebral vessels.

Approximately 2/3 excreted via feces and 1/3 via urine, primarily as metabolites.

Absorption
Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma concentrations are reached in 1-3 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver (mainly via CYP2D6).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Cinnarizine or any excipients of the tablet

Drug Interactions
Hypotensive agents
May lead to additive hypotensive effects.
Anticholinergic drugs
Potentiation of anticholinergic effects.
CNS depressants (alcohol, sedatives, hypnotics)
Concurrent use may enhance the sedative effects of Cinnarizine.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include somnolence, stupor, coma, ataxia, extrapyramidal symptoms, and hypotension. Management is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage and activated charcoal.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Cinnarizine should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefits justify the potential risks to the fetus. It may pass into breast milk; caution is advised during lactation.
