Mebantrin 100 mg Suspension is an anthelmintic medication used to treat various parasitic worm infections in children and adults.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For most common infections, 100 mg twice daily for 3 days or a single dose of 500 mg (if available).
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required; use with caution.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment necessary as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
Shake well before use. Can be taken with or without food. For some infections, a fatty meal may increase absorption.
Mechanism of Action
Mebantrin selectively inhibits the polymerization of tubulin, resulting in the disruption of metabolic functions in helminths, leading to their death.

Onset
Within 2-4 days (for full eradication of worms).
Excretion
Mainly via feces; a small amount is excreted in urine as metabolites.

Approximately 2-5 hours.

Poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; absorption is increased with fatty meals.

Symptoms of overdose may include abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Management is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit outweighs risk. Excreted in breast milk in small amounts; caution advised during lactation.
