Description
Overview of the medicine
Methasol-N Cream is a combination medication containing Mometasone Furoate, a corticosteroid, and Fusidic Acid, an antibiotic. It is used to treat inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis that are either infected or likely to become infected with bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area twice daily for up to two weeks.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required, use with caution.
Renal_impairment
Not expected to require dose adjustment due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply a thin film to the affected skin area and gently rub in. Wash hands before and after application.
Mechanism of Action
Mometasone Furoate is a potent corticosteroid that works by decreasing the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation, swelling, and itching. Fusidic Acid is an antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by interfering with the translocation step, leading to bacteriostatic or bactericidal effects against susceptible organisms, particularly Staphylococcus aureus.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of action for symptomatic relief usually within a few days.
Excretion
Mometasone Furoate is excreted via bile and urine. Fusidic Acid metabolites are primarily excreted in the bile.
Half life
Systemic half-life for Mometasone is approximately 5.8 hours. For Fusidic Acid, it is approximately 5-6 hours after systemic absorption.
Absorption
Mometasone Furoate has minimal systemic absorption when applied topically. Fusidic Acid also shows limited systemic absorption through intact skin but can be absorbed through damaged skin.
Metabolism
Mometasone Furoate is primarily metabolized in the liver. Fusidic Acid is extensively metabolized in the liver.
