Description
Overview of the medicine
Miroflex 25 mg Tablet contains Baclofen, a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant used to treat muscle spasticity resulting from multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, or other spinal cord diseases.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initially 5 mg three times daily, gradually increasing by 5 mg increments every 3 days to a maximum of 20 mg three times daily. Some patients may require up to 100 mg daily.
Elderly
Lower initial doses are recommended, with careful titration due to increased sensitivity and potential for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
Dose reduction is necessary. For mild to moderate impairment, consider halving the dose. For severe impairment or dialysis patients, use with extreme caution and very low doses.
How to Take
Administer orally with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Mechanism of Action
Baclofen is a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) derivative that acts as a GABA-B receptor agonist. It works by inhibiting both monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflexes at the spinal level, thereby reducing muscle hypertonicity and spasticity.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Typically within 1-2 hours
Excretion
Mainly excreted unchanged by the kidneys (70-80%) via urine. A small amount is excreted in feces.
Half life
Approximately 3-4 hours
Absorption
Rapidly and extensively absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 2-3 hours.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized in the liver; approximately 15% is metabolized to inactive metabolites.
