Mechanism of Action
Montelukast selectively antagonizes the cysteinyl leukotriene 1 (CysLT1) receptor, inhibiting the bronchodilator and inflammatory effects of leukotrienes. This helps to reduce inflammation, bronchoconstriction, and mucus secretion in the airways.

Half life
Approximately 2.7 to 5.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentration (Tmax) is reached in 2-4 hours. Oral bioavailability for a 10 mg tablet is approximately 64%.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes, primarily CYP2C8, and to a lesser extent CYP3A4 and CYP2C9.

Drug Interactions
Rifampin

Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In cases of overdose, common adverse events include abdominal pain, somnolence, thirst, headache, vomiting, and psychomotor hyperactivity. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. There is no specific antidote.
