Shake well before use. For oral candidiasis, place half of the dose in each side of the mouth and retain for as long as possible before swallowing. For infants and young children, apply with a dropper or swab to affected areas in the mouth.

Nystatin is a polyene antifungal that binds to sterols (primarily ergosterol) in the fungal cell membrane, leading to an alteration in cell permeability and leakage of intracellular components. This results in fungal cell death.

Store at room temperature (15-30°C). Protect from light and freezing. Keep out of reach of children.

Oral overdose with nystatin is unlikely to produce systemic toxicity due to poor absorption. May cause nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.

Pregnancy Category C. Nystatin is poorly absorbed from the GI tract, and adverse effects on the fetus are unlikely. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is not known whether nystatin is excreted in human milk; use with caution in nursing mothers.
