Description
Overview of the medicine
Natazol 0.05% Nasal Drop is a corticosteroid medication used to treat symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, and nasal congestion, by reducing inflammation in the nasal passages.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adults and adolescents 12 years and older: Initially, 2 sprays into each nostril once daily. May be reduced to 1 spray per nostril once daily for maintenance, or increased to 2 sprays twice daily if needed.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is required for patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
For nasal use only. Shake gently before use. Clear your nasal passages, then tilt your head slightly forward. Insert the nozzle into one nostril and press the pump while sniffing gently. Repeat for the other nostril. Avoid spraying into the eyes or directly onto the nasal septum.
Mechanism of Action
Fluticasone Propionate is a synthetic corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory effects. It works by reducing the inflammation in the nasal passages, thereby alleviating symptoms of allergic rhinitis.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of action typically occurs within 12 hours, with full effect achieved after several days (3-4 days) of regular use.
Excretion
Excreted primarily in the feces, with a small portion excreted in urine.
Half life
Systemic half-life is approximately 3-5 hours.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after nasal administration (bioavailability <2%). Peak plasma concentrations are generally low or undetectable.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via CYP3A4 into inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to fluticasone propionate or any component of the formulation
- Untreated localized infection involving the nasal mucosa (e.g., fungal, bacterial, or viral)
Drug Interactions
Ritonavir
Concurrent use may significantly increase fluticasone propionate systemic exposure, leading to potential corticosteroid systemic effects. Avoid co-administration unless the benefit outweighs the increased risk.
Ketoconazole
May increase systemic exposure to fluticasone propionate, but generally not clinically significant with typical nasal doses.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children. Keep the cap tightly closed when not in use.
Overdose
Acute overdose is unlikely due to the low systemic absorption. Chronic overdose may lead to signs of hypercorticism. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive, usually involving gradual reduction of the nasal spray.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use in pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Small amounts may be excreted in breast milk; caution is advised during breastfeeding, and a physician should be consulted.
