Neofix 200 mg Capsule contains Cefixime, a broad-spectrum third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adults: 200 mg once daily or 100 mg twice daily. Dosage may be increased to 400 mg once daily or 200 mg twice daily for severe infections. For uncomplicated gonorrhea, a single oral dose of 400 mg.
Elderly
Elderly patients: Dosage similar to adults, but renal function should be assessed and dose adjusted if necessary, especially in those with severe renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
For creatinine clearance 21-60 mL/min: 300 mg daily. For creatinine clearance < 20 mL/min: 200 mg daily.

Mechanism of Action
Cefixime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bactericidal action. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, which prevents the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis.

Peak plasma concentrations reached within 2-6 hours after oral administration.
Excretion
Excreted primarily by renal elimination (about 50% of an absorbed dose is excreted unchanged in urine within 24 hours).

Plasma elimination half-life is typically 3-4 hours.
Absorption
Approximately 40-50% orally absorbed. Food does not significantly alter absorption.
Metabolism
Not extensively metabolized in the liver.

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Cefixime or any other cephalosporin antibiotics.
- History of severe hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May increase prothrombin time with or without bleeding. Close monitoring of INR is recommended.
Carbamazepine
Elevated carbamazepine levels have been reported when co-administered with cefixime.
Oral Contraceptives
May reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives; additional contraceptive methods may be needed.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
