Description
Overview of the medicine
Neso 375 mg Tablet contains Naproxen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), used for pain relief, reducing inflammation, and fever.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis: 250 mg to 500 mg twice daily. For acute gout: 750 mg orally, followed by 250 mg every 8 hours until the attack subsides. For mild to moderate pain, dysmenorrhea: 500 mg initially, then 250 mg every 6-8 hours as needed. Maximum dose: 1250 mg/day.
Elderly
Lower doses may be required due to increased risk of adverse effects. Consider 250 mg twice daily, and adjust based on renal function and tolerability.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; a lower total daily dose should be considered and patients monitored closely.
How to Take
Take orally with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Mechanism of Action
Naproxen inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins mediate inflammation, pain, and fever. By inhibiting their synthesis, Naproxen reduces these symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Pain relief usually starts within 1 hour.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in the urine (about 95%), mainly as metabolites and conjugates.
Half life
Approximately 12-17 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 2-4 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver by demethylation and glucuronidation.
