Description
Overview of the medicine
Neurobest 100 mg injection is a combination of B vitamins (Thiamine, Pyridoxine, Cyanocobalamin) indicated for the treatment of neurological and other disorders associated with B vitamin deficiencies.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1 ampoule (3 ml) daily or 2-3 times a week, administered intramuscularly, depending on severity and physician's advice.
Elderly
Same as adults, or adjust based on physician's assessment.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment usually required for water-soluble vitamins, but use with caution in severe cases.
How to Take
Administered as a deep intramuscular injection by a healthcare professional.
Mechanism of Action
Thiamine (B1) is essential for carbohydrate metabolism and nerve function. Pyridoxine (B6) is involved in amino acid metabolism and neurotransmitter synthesis. Cyanocobalamin (B12) is crucial for DNA synthesis, myelin formation, and red blood cell production.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Symptoms may improve within days to weeks of consistent administration.
Excretion
Excreted primarily via the kidneys.
Half life
Variable for each component, generally short as water-soluble vitamins.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after intramuscular administration.
Metabolism
Metabolized in the liver (B6), phosphorylation (B1).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component
- Known allergy to Thiamine, Pyridoxine, or Cyanocobalamin
Drug Interactions
Levodopa
Pyridoxine may reduce the effect of levodopa (not co-administered).
Isoniazid
May increase pyridoxine requirements.
Oral contraceptives
May lower vitamin B6 and B12 levels.
Storage
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Overdose is rare with water-soluble vitamins as excess is usually excreted. However, very high doses of pyridoxine over a prolonged period can cause sensory neuropathy. Symptomatic and supportive treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe, but use only if clearly needed and advised by a doctor during pregnancy and lactation. High doses of pyridoxine may not be recommended.
