Description
Overview of the medicine
Novin-005 Nasal Drop is a topical decongestant containing Xylometazoline Hydrochloride, used for the symptomatic relief of nasal congestion caused by colds, allergies, and sinusitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Not typically recommended for adults; adult formulations usually contain 0.1% Xylometazoline. If used, 1-2 drops into each nostril, 2-3 times daily, not exceeding 3 days.
Elderly
Use with caution and under medical supervision. Dosage may need adjustment due to potential cardiovascular effects.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment usually required for renal impairment with topical use due to minimal systemic absorption. Consult a physician.
How to Take
For nasal use only. Blow nose gently before use. Tilt head back and apply recommended drops into each nostril. Keep head tilted for a few seconds. Do not exceed recommended dose or duration.
Mechanism of Action
Xylometazoline is an alpha-adrenergic agonist that constricts the blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, thereby reducing swelling and congestion.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 5-10 minutes.
Excretion
Primarily eliminated locally or via mucociliary clearance.
Half life
Approximately 5-6 hours locally, systemic half-life negligible due to minimal absorption.
